You hit the bulls eye James. Change the WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE value in wp-config.php and immediately the tag is present.
I suspect this value was getting set when I was doing some extensive site re-org work using wp.local some months ago.
I have also re-enabled all plug-ins and reverted to my preferred theme and all seems to be working.
Big thanks to you and Adam for your patience on this one.
Actually I set my problem site with a new site owner, a separate gmail account that I own. That second account is a a clean account ie no history with Site Kit at all. So would have thought that it would go through easily if that was the issue. Like I say I have set up two other accounts with the same hosting company just fine…
I checked for hosting variations between the working, and non working sites bit could not see anything.
Also checked for file system permissions / ownership inconsistencies but nope nothing.
Is there some way to turn on debugging / logging in the plugin to see what it is doing under the hood?
Hi Adam, I gave that a try. I reset the site kit and then re initialised it with another google account that I have but seemed to be just the same result.
Any other ideas ?
Hi Adam, I tried the tastewp site https://sackson.s2-tastewp.com/ and I still don’t see the tag. My reference site is https://redsound.co.uk/ and the tag is visible there in the page source as a gtag.
Points to gmail account issue do you think?
Happy to give that a go later on, when back from day job, but the other sites I have set up, which are working with site kit, are with the same hosting provider and shared hosting account so a lot of the settings will be the same. There are of course independent controls too for each site like cache for example but a good deal of it must be common.
I will check for differences there too.
Additionally did a reset site kit in case that was helpful, but still no tag present.
Hi Adam, apologies for the late reply. So I have just disabled all plug ins (except site-kit) and switched to a wordpress 2024 theme. I don’t see any improvment ie no tag in the page source.
any thoughts?
Hi there I tried the reset as suggested and didn’t see any change. I have added an observation on the measurement tag id on the submitted site health info so do take a look when it comes through.
The result is the same in firefox and chrome whether incognito or not.
