The workaround with user capabilities is no longer needed since the issue has been solved yesterday by installing the wpForo User Custom Fields addon.
Anyway, thanks very much for your support!
Same problem for one of my websites. Comments from October through January have been disappeared. They were sent by email but not sent to the WP database (not found in Admin). After ressetting the ReCaptcha key and ID in Admin, the captcha of the Comments form was visible again and the comments were also sent to Admin. But the comments of 3 months period are still lost in the system.
