In reply to: Featured images no longer displayingI installed WP Downgrade plugin and rolled my install back to 5.3.3 and it corrected the Featured Image functionality.
Guess I have to turn off the auto-update function!

In reply to: Featured images no longer displayingI should have said I already disabled all my plugins – first thing I do when something breaks on an upgrade. Been doing this a long time. Always do that first. I also used Site Health, and it said only that I should think about deleting unused themes and plugins.
I use NextCellent because when I first started using WP, it had no inline gallery or lightbox functionality. (My website is heavily image oriented.)
I did download a new version of Twenty Fourteen, and uploaded it, but that did nothing to fix the featured image not displaying.
It’s funny, I almost always keep my old version around for just these kinds of reasons, but WP auto upgraded my site to 5.3.3 and it worked fine. SO never grabbed a backup. My bad.

In reply to: bad new editor in wordpress 5Just adding my voice:
I can’t tell you how much i HATE the new editor. Just hate it. Hate it, hate it hate it.
Been working with it for hours and still have not figured out how to add a picture. How to set a featured picture — I used Nextgen for my pictures, because I do NOT like how WP handles pictures, and I can’t figure out how to call the Nextgen plugin from inside the editor.
Man – drives me up the freaking wall!

In reply to: wp_commentmeta doesn’t exist. The only update I didn’t have installed was 5.2. I’ve had the auto-updater working fine for at least a couple of years. (But GoDaddy is often a difficult hosting site to do updates on – I tried to update to 5.2 a couple of times but it timed out.)
I managed to get the 5.2 update installed and it did indeed resolve the issue of the error log filling.
Thank you.

In reply to: wp-admin won’t loadIt was the gutenberg plugin that caused the wp-admin to fail.

In reply to: wp-admin won’t loadwell that did it! I re-named the plugins folder and wp-admin loaded. I’m starting to add the plugins back, one at a time, til I discover the one that is bad.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

In reply to: wp-admin won’t loadI renamed the twentyfourteen folder, got nothing but a can’t find the twentyfourteen folder error. Renamed the default theme folder to twentyfourteen and the blog appeared, but the wp-admin still throws the http 500 error when I try to login.
Re-renamed the twentyfourteen folder and the blog loads fine again, but of course the wp-admin won’t load. The blog shows me as logged in – but if I try to edit a post, say, it will throw the http 500 error again!
sigh.
http://www.snorkel-caribbean.com is my site.

In reply to: [Slider by 10Web - Responsive Image Slider] Adding an image via URLHi there,
Updated it and works like a charm! Very nice. Thanks very much.
I’m shocked (and I’m not easily shocked) at the response.
I guess I better go pay for this thing!

In reply to: [Slider by 10Web - Responsive Image Slider] Adding an image via URLThanks for the reply, but that’s not what I meant…
For instance, I create a new slider. I click on Add Slide and it brings up the wordpress picture dialogue. I do not use the stock wordpress picture gallery, I use the Nextcellent gallery plugin to manage my pictures. I used to be able to specify a direct url to insert nextcellent images for use in the slide.
I can’t seem to find a way to do that, even trying to edit an old slide, I’m unable to find a way to specify a direct url for images already in the slider.

In reply to: Upgrade to 3.8 completely destroyed my blogDude you are a rockstar!
that nextcellent was most nextcellent! It grabbed all the nextgen shortcodes and the blog looks halfway to normal!
many, many thanks!

In reply to: Upgrade to 3.8 completely destroyed my blogSorry – mispoke – i reset my theme i’m currently using to 1theme… left the theme folder proper alone – i re-uploaded the 3.8 files, and this time got into the admin.
Still no blog – then went to the themes and it re-set it and the blog appeared.
I then renamed the plugins folder back, activated askimet – worked. Activated next-gen and blew it up all over again.
Repeated the whole process – and have not activated next-gen and the blog is cobbling together.
tizz: I edited the file and changed the limit to 256 and it worked. Thanks for the reply.
I edited my php.ini file to include the following
memory_limit = 256M
It let one additional post display (albeit not properly) then got the same out of memory allocation.
I’m having the same issue with the recent upgrade to Nextgen. Suggesting we increase memory size is all well and good, but the problem did not exist before this upgrade to Nextgen. I’ve disabled the sidebar widget that displays random images, but the main blog pukes on a “singlepic” and crashes the whole blog. (www.mauriceo.com).
I’d have to say it is a problem with NExtgen.
However, I certainly will try to increase the memory limit… can you give a bit more detail on how to accomplish this?
