Thanks for the quick response! I started fidgeting with the plug-ins and you were spot on. It turned out that only after I emptied the cache from an SEO Performance plug-in I was running, did the publishing tool toggle down once again. I’ll remember this for the future, although it was disconcerting at first.

I’m not using a commercial theme, but I’ve decided having more than line one navigation would clutter up my page, so I’m just going to find a plug-in to take care of the issue.
The link to the forums is great, I saw my theme in there and found some interesting ideas I might work with.
