that monetization option is completely optional, not sure what’s your issue with a trusted plugin author trying to get paid after his hard work.

It’s a bit of a shame that the default theme doesn’t have a full-width page template. Every theme should have that. Think about a 1-page website or a landing page – they would be most likely without a sidebar.
Interestingly Twenty Fourteen had a full width template, I don’t see why this was left out from the current one. Any ideas behind the consideration or it was just looked over perhaps?
