The easiest way to add sliders is to go with a plugin.
If you are just concerned with the posts you can give https://wordpress.org/plugins/posts-slider/ a try, else https://wordpress.org/plugins/ml-slider/

Is there any cache plugin involved.
If you think u havent made much changes to the theme. I would suggest you to download a new theme and use it and redo the small changes if any.
I guess that will be the easiest solution without looking into the codes.

You can add a logo by following the below steps
Go to Appearance >> customize >> General and there you upload the logo and click save

I checked the site and see what you are talking about. The logo image you are using is way too big and if you use an image of width 980px (which is the container width), it will fix the issue.
and about the odd behaviour of the image in FF and IE, I would just say chrome is well more intelligent than the other two 😉
