In reply to: Admins can't post after 3.5 upgradeSorry about this.
OK so, logged in as administrator I can edit existing posts but I can’t change their categories. I can’t add new users and I can’t change the roles of existing users.
This is my first day back at work and my new year resolution was to post lots more items on my site – at least three a day.
First thing I did was update to 3.5 and now this. The dog’s barking constantly, my kids are nagging and I’ve given up alcohol for January. Now it’s started to rain. Please help.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Admins can't post after 3.5 upgradeHello again
Sorry. I did manage to post an item via Quick Post a couple of hours ago and I edited some of the text. I can’t add that item to a category, though.
Now, I can’t add an item via Quick Post.
So, anybody logged on to the site as admin can edit existing posts but can’t add new. They can’t add new users, too, even though the add user process goes all the way to ‘user added’, the new names never appear in the user list.Forum: Installing WordPress

Something about specifying php5?
I’m still pretty green but seem to be learning fast, thanks to people like you.
I really appreciate your help.

Yes. The small business package.

Scared to try anything else for a couple of days but my courage will return. Thanks very much, James. My familiarity has improved and my confidence is growing. I appreciate your support.
I’m going for a spin on my motorbike as a little celebration.

In reply to: Won't update core or plug-insOK, so I did a re-install using FTP and I’m now able to install, activate and edit plug-ins with Twenty Ten and my preferred theme (Amazing from Bingo).
The dashboard lists all posts properly. The only remaining problem seems to be the alert in the yellow panel telling me an automated update has failed to complete. How can I get rid of this, please?

In reply to: Won't update core or plug-insHi James
Thanks for that. Deactivating plug-ins made no difference at first. It wasn’t letting me edit plug-in settings, either.
Then switched to Twenty Ten and it allowed me to install a new plug-in and edit all plug-in settings apart from Akismet and Calendar. It just hangs when I click ‘edit’.
“An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.” is permanently displayed on yellow at the top of the dashboard but when I try to do an auto core reinstall it gets as far as:
Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…
then hangs.
So, a bit of progress, thanks.

In reply to: Installed 2.7.1 – photos do not upload!!Tried that but it didn’t work for me. Tried every combination of upload directories and various paths, tried .htaccess files in wp-admin, tried resetting permalinks and have had my host confirm permissions set to 755.
Nothing allows me to insert an image via the text editor, apart from FTP direct to folder then choosing “link to URL”.
I’m surprised by the number of people who have had this type of problem and the range of solutions offered. None worked for me and I’m getting desperate.
Any other suggestions out there?

In reply to: Authentication Unique Keys not includedThanks Samboll
I’ll try that. What will the missing unique keys affect?

In reply to: Images not displayingCould this problem be anything to do with me forgetting to add Authentication Unique Keys to the “config” file at installation?

In reply to: Images not showing, getting desperate!Checked permissions on the server and that shouldn’t be causing this issue. Any other suggestions, please?

In reply to: Images not displayingI need to be more self-sufficient, I think.
OK, Shane gave me valuable information that I was able to further research and then act on. Thanks Shane.
All the permissions on my server have been set according to Shane’s advice, but unfortunately, the images still don’t show.
Any other ideas?

In reply to: Images not showing, getting desperate!Hi Tomontoast
I have wp-adserve installed, storing banner ads in a folder in the same directory as the wp files and folders.
There are no php or .htaccess files in the upload folder (although I don’t see .htaccess using WS_FTP LE. I can see them using my laptop with Linux installed).
