I decided to go with the Google Calendar widget instead. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-google-calendar/
I had this problem and the fix was simple. Go to your Dashboard and click the Presentation tab. From there, click on the Widgets tab and drag the Events Calendar in to your widget sidebar and save your changes.
