Thanks, everyone, for feedback. The image link below shows what I’m referring to. On this iPhone (XR model,iOS 12.3.1), the message box sticks to the top and then I can’t use the trash can or collapse functions of the chat box. At other times, the message box floats over the the conversation text:

On my iPad (iOS 9.3.5), similarly, the message box sticks at the top and then I can’t use the trash can or collapse functions of the chat box.

I don’t have any of these issues on Chrome or Android. But now that I read the details in this thread, and now that I see how old my iPad is, I see that I need to 1) update WordPress, and 2) upgrade my iPad. Thank you!
