More information:
– If I enter the name “Ramón” within the Administration interface, then it gets saved and displayed fine.
– If I export it, the file is save with extension .csv.xls but it’s actually a .csv file. I can edit the extension and the import it – I need to select “Windows (ANSI)” under “File origin” for the international characters to look fine. This makes sense to me. The other options are “Macintosh” and “DOS or OS/2 (PC-8).
– I created the sample file linked in my original post using Google Docs, with the option under File->Download As->Excel. I am assuming that Google Docs encodes things right and opening the file in Excel displays it fine.
– All these tests I’m doing in a Mac, using Excel for Mac.
Have you considered using custom questions? It’s not as “elegant” but it may solve your problem.
