In reply to: Changing Directory StructureHi!
Is there a previous post that used that category “cake” as a slug that you might have deleted? If it’s still in the Trash, that might be the cause. If that is the case, try deleting the trash permanently.

In reply to: Changing Directory StructureHi there titan21!
Check out this article in the Codex regarding Taxonomies. Categories are an example of a taxonomy, but there are others. The Custom Taxonomies might help you (although I wouldn’t recommend the plugin referenced).

See if this function reference can help you at all:
The Post ThumbnailAlthough it is about thumbnails, certain parameters are available to select the full size of the image.
And then, you can have a look at this older forum post concerning the same issue: Display Full Size Pictures Instead of Excerpts.
The solution would involve some tweaks in a template file. The reason that I asked what theme you were using is because that could dictate which template file would need to be tweaked.

In reply to: Making another language from an existing siteHi Vannon,
The answer is yes, but isn’t as simple as copying the content/folder over. The directory structure is a bit different, although is simple enough to understand. Another consideration is whether or not you’d like to use subdomains, so for instance you’d have en.yourdomain.com and fr.yourdomain.com. The other option is using subfolders.
See if this other article makes sense at all: Multisite Network Administration?
I am not being as direct in my responses only because there are multiple approaches that you can take, depending on the need, both currently and moving forward. There are upfront considerations, along with maintenance considerations as well.

In reply to: Pagination 404 ErrorThanks for the clarification! I was just wondering because sometimes themes can cause incompatibilities and the fix may even require working with specific theme template files as indicated in the link keesiermeijer provided.
Good luck!

In reply to: Error: PHP is not runningHi Cici,
Yes I believe that due to censorship in China, WordPress.com might still be blocked; although I have read of some individuals that have been able to use it with issues – sometimes minimal, but other times a lot. Unfortunately, that could prevent you from reliably running a blog account. If you want to use WordPress for blogging, your only other option is a hosted account – the method that you are attempting to use.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with wordexpress. If you can clarify that, I might be able to answer your question.

In reply to: 500 – Internal server error Version 3.4.2 upgradeHi,
See if this previous post of a similar issue might be a viable solution for you:
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Making another language from an existing siteIt all depends on how you want to run each site moving forward. Correct me if I am wrong, but based on my understanding of your situation, you will always have a French version of your English site; and translations will be maintained manually/independently. So if a change in the English version is made (i.e. new content added), a corresponding change to the French version would also be made (new content also added but in French).

Have you had a look at the article Installing WordPress in Your Language? There are multiple steps involved.

In reply to: Unable to Expand Mac OS X 10.8 WP Installation Download 3.4.2Hi Plane Wryter,
My apologies. My response didn’t really address your issue. To answer your question, I have been able to successfully download and decompress WordPress 3.4.2 both in the zip and tar.gz versions of the compressed package. I’ve read that you can also try Stuffit Expander, if you have access to it.
Have you researched the Apple Support forums about general decompressing issues with Mountain Lion 10.8.2? This is one of the threads that I came across regarding the topic: Archive Utility Freezes When Trying to Unzip a Zip File. While it isn’t the exact issue, it also points to the same general problem and might help.
