In reply to: How do multisite on WAMP?Glad to hear that you got it sorted 🙂
Yes, there is very little information available about doing this sort of thing on local servers. What I have seen here on the forums is that folk tend to be ‘confused’ with ‘multisite’, which is an altogether different ‘animal’ 🙂
Regarding your PS, I can only make a recommendation based upon my personal opinion from extensive use of this combination:
Genesis framework + Dynamik Website Builder (for the theme portion) and Beaver Builder – Standard (there’s also a free version available in the WP plugin repository) for content layout.

In reply to: Problems with Installation /Site going liveIt sounds as though you bought and registered your domain name with one provider and bought your hosting account with another.
If this is the case, then you have to change the domain nameservers (DNS) at the place where you bought the domain to the nameservers of your hosting account.
Once this is done, it can take a while for it to become effective, as Tara pointed out.

In reply to: How do multisite on WAMP?If you want to have another instance of WP in your WAMP server, just create a new, empty database for it, create a new folder for it in WAMP’s ‘www’ folder, unpack the WP files to this folder and run the install 🙂 No need for ‘multisite’.
e.g.:
First site is here:
C:\WAMP\www\wordpress and you access it with
http://localhost/wordpressSecond site would be here:
C:\WAMP\www\wordpress2 and you access it with
http://localhost/wordpress2… and so on and so on.
Your only limitation is the space on your hard drive. And they don’t all have to be WordPress. You can also install, for example, Joomla!, Drupal, eFront, PrestaShop, or a plain old HTML site.

In reply to: Restore localhost site with WAMPI tried moving a WAMP installation to another machine, but as it “installs” itself when you do the WAMP installation, it’s not that easy. My fave local server, Uniform Server, does not do this; it can be run from a USB stick.
Anyway, if you still have access to the old WAMP, it should be able to start up (make sure the new WAMP install is not running). If it does, open phpMyAdmin from the WAMP control panel and export the site’s database. Also copy the files from that site to the new WAMP ‘www’ folder.
Shut down the old WAMP and start up the new one, open phpMyAdmin, create a new, empty database using the same name as the old one and import the exported SQL file into it. You shouldn’t have to edit the wp-config.php file as you are (should) be using the same path and database credentials.
If all this does let you get back into the site, go to Settings > Permalinks and just re-save in order rebuild your .htaccess file.

In reply to: How to startDo you have a web address that you can share so we can take a look at what you do have so far?
Sounds as though you have WordPress installed and are working with the default Twenty Fifteen theme; not much to look at, really 🙂
Although the link below will be where most will direct you to, sometimes a search for ‘Getting started with WordPress’ on YouTube will get you some great tutorials to get you going 🙂

In reply to: New Tabs in explorerThere is nothing wrong with your install … this is the default behavior of WP 🙂
When you click the Preview button in the page/post editor, it will open that page/post in a new tab.

In reply to: Can't install websiteIf you bought your domain and hosting within the last 48 hours, you will just have to wait 🙂 It can take up to this amount of time (or even longer) for your domain to propagate. No hosting company that I have seen notes this in their sales literature 🙂 … it’s not instant.
When you are working in the “admin site part”, note the URL that is being displayed; more than likely a temporary one assigned by the hosting provider.

In reply to: Lost Local Host – Now WP says Invalid UserTo clarify:
– your “WP account” … is this at wordress.COM?
– what specific type of hosting account do you have at GoDaddy? cPanel/Linux, Plesk/Windows or Managed WordPress
– MAMP doesn’t specifically “work” with any remote servers per se; you develop a site locally with MAMP, then when ready, you upload the files to your hosting account and export the local database and import it into one that you set up on your hosting account.Forum: Localhost Installs
In reply to: localhost url not found@ingrid466 – please start your own thread as your issue is for a different local server.

In reply to: Transfer of site failingTo clarify:
– you downloaded all the WP site files from your GD hosting account
– you exported your GD hosted site’s database
– you created a new, empty database on your local server (which one are you using?)
– you imported the exported DB file into the new, local DB
– you edited thesiteurland ‘homefields in the wp_options table in the local DB to this value:http://localhost/projects/recycling– placed your downloaded WP files in a folder named recycling which is in a folder named projects which is in the root of your local server (www or htdocs)
– you edited the now local wp-config.php with the local DB credentials
– you logged in to the backend withhttp://localhost/projects/recycling/wp-admininstalled and ran this plugin:http://wordpress.org/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/
— select all options EXCEPT the last one (GUID)
Once that is done, go to:
Settings > Permalinks and Save.

In reply to: I deleted my QuickInstall on HostGatorYou should contact HostGator support as there appears to be an issue with their QuickInstaller not completely removing an install.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: I deleted my QuickInstall on HostGatorTry going to the Quickinstall manager and use it to remove the existing Quickinstall. This is the preferred method of doing so as it properly readies the hosting account for the installation of another one.

In reply to: WordPress already installed but unable to log inAlthough they should be fine, just to confirm that when you enter only
http://localhostand you get the XAMPP Welcome page, check the Status link in the left side bar and ensure all the items listed are in the green and activated. They should be as you wouldn’t generally make it that far through the WP install if they were not.One other thing to try is to download a fresh copy of the WP package and use that one on a new install. Don’t delete or remove the existing one, just use a different name for the wordpress folder, e.g. wordpress2 and same for the new database.
Additionally, you may want to try doing the install using a different browser.
