Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: stuck before setup screenThanks to all who have helped me. I watched a youtube video by Eli the computer guy who showed me how to modify the hosts file on another machine to point to my server and so when I type in my browser ‘test.com’ or other of my virtual host names I get the correct pages Thanks again.

In reply to: stuck before setup screenJust to let you know, The suggestion from Keith worked for me first shot. I have also followed the Digital Ocean “How to setup Apache Virtual Hosts on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I can successfully follow the steps and having installed the Browser ‘LINKS” on the server machine and typing http://example.com and
http://test.com I can get the relevant page “Success! The example.com virtual host is working!” or “Success! The test.com virtual host is working”. Got no idea how to get that response from a client machine on my own internal network.
Also it makes a document roots under the /var/www directory as /var/www/example.com/public_html & /var/www/test.com/public_html. Could the WordPress folder be put under one of these and say the Joomla folder under the other. I could be sprouting a lot of rubbish here as I am not understanding the method of addressing as given me by Keith ThanksForum: Installing WordPress

In reply to: stuck before setup screenThankyou for your prompt response MDD. I want to know whether the contents of the unpacked wordpress download in my folder /home/john/wordpress are to be transfered to /var/www/html/MyExampleSite or to /var/www/html/MyExampleSite/wordpress. That is do I include the original folder or not. Of course I won’t call the new folder MyExampleSite. Thanks again
