I’ve been looking for something similar, but I’ve had to luck.
I’m tinkering around in the code to see if there’s a nice easy fix for this, I’ll let you know if I come across anything.
I don’t really understand why it’s configured the way it is, most if not all other image galleries allow you to click on the image to navigate to the next one, usually with the ESC key and a button somewhere to close/exit the gallery.
