I love that you loaded it with content.
The thing I don’t like about WooThemes News theme is it’s a complete rip-off of Portfolio.com, and I’m not big on stealing.
My two suggestions would be:
Get a smooth gradient background of some sort for the outside of the page (not a cheap one, a smooth one where it’s barely noticable) and go a bit more simplistic on the logo.
I have two suggestions…
1. Try to absolute position your masthead using CSS.
2. Forget about it. There are much cooler wordpress themes out there for free. Checkout this list from Smashing Magazine:
