Do the two video plugins you suggested require certain widgets? How do I get them to work?

Also, is there a particular BuddyPress theme that would work best for having a site primarily concerning showcasing videos?

Thank you for your answer. “Self-hosted video”- does this refer to videos I upload myself from iMovie, and the “third-party videos”- are they the videos I’ve (or someone else has) uploaded to YouTube?
Also, would I ever need more video plugins than these two (Degradable HTML5 and Viper’s Video Quicktags) or would they do it for me?

About the Kaltura plugin– first you have to get the BuddyPress plugin, then you get the Kaltura plugin for BuddyPress. Then you do have an actual YouTube-like site. As I said, it’ll cost you around $300 a month.

Also, somebody suggested that subscribers to my blog can post a “video comment” as a comment to something I post. My blog’s not up yet, I’m completely new at this, and I don’t know how to get as far as allowing someone to post a video comment. It seems like they could keep posting video comments, and that could be like YouTube. Please someone, give me feedback on this.

There’s the Kaltura plugin– after the free trial, they charge you $300 a month. I talked to several people who said I’d need a dedicated server if I wanted to do it myself, without Kaltura.
There is also something called Revver. It is much less money, but you would have to share your site with them. You can google Revver and see the details.
If anyone finds anything else or gets creative, please let me know. My email is iandthou_@hotmail.com. Also, if you can tell me how to upload videos myself, as the admin, I’d be grateful. The only thing I’ve found is the VideoPress plugin, and I don’t think it’ll work for me, because I have an InMotion site, and not a wordpress.com site. Any help would be appreciated.

I have another question I hope someone out there can help me with. Here’s my starting point. Given that on a WordPress blog, anyone can put videos in their comment on any blog post. Would it be possible to post all future videos as comments to the initial post? How about posting one video myself initially, then rigging it so everyone keeps commenting on it for ever after? Is that possible? Is there any way I might be able to do that, and restrict comments to just videos, so that we get no verbal, text comments? Any ideas on how I might do this? I really appreciate the help.
