Followup: I was able to use the Wordfence plugin to show the before and after images of the file. I saw that it was a minor change, and was able to ignore this change until something happens again. Resolved!

I usually update plugins from the plugin version. Any chance of making the change there too?

Today I scanned the folder from the good, previous backup. This included the files and the database. I didn’t get any malware.
With the site control panel, I deleted the files under ./public_html/ Now my FTP software doesn’t see ‘public_html’ for some reason. I ended up contacting the host support to see if they can do a fresh install.
A related question. My good backup is from WP 3.5.2 But the WP install will be 4.2.2. Do you think there will be a conflict with my backed up files and the version of WP that is running? If so, I will need to start the pages completely from scratch.
