I just figured out that the problem is the theme I am using, since the error is gone when I am using storefront.The next step would be to contact the theme support I guess, right?

thanks a lot for your suggestion, but also after completely deactivating autoptimize it still doesn´t work. The checkout is still totally grey. I just noticed that there is an error displaying, but I am not sure if it is correlated to the main issue of this topic.
This is the error:
WP HTTP Error curl error 28 connection timed out after 10001 milliseconds
