The theme is a custom design. Switching to the Worpdress default theme shows me an album overview that looks totally different so it’s hard to tell if the problem shows up in other themes as well. I have been trying to adjust the nexgen gallery css file to solve the problem but maybe I need to be making adjustments to the theme css?

Commenting would work well, but what if a student wants to initiate a discussion? That would be an absolute must. Is there any way that they can start a comment without me first posting? I guess not…

    More questions popping up…

One of the features in WebCT which actually worked really well for my students was the integrated discussion group. Anyone have any thoughts on how this could best be achieved within WP MU? I’m thinking a single install of bbpress with separate groups for each individual class. Of course this is more work and manual labor for me…

Excellent. I should have found that myself. Sorry so lazy. Thanks again for your input.

    adamrbrown,

That’s all very encouraging. I’m trying a test install of MU right now.

Maybe this is something for the MU board, but do ALL/MOST standard WP plugins work with MU as well? That would be very important since I have a few plugins that I can’t live without…

    adamrbrown,

Thanks for sharing your experiences with me and also giving me access to your course.

Your thoughts have confirmed my feeling that Worpress would be a slimmer way of getting these courses online. Moodle looks nice, but I feel it is again probably overkill for our department. May I ask what type of hosting package you are using for the WordPress install and how many students are accessing the courses? Just trying to get an idea if our current host can handle something like this.

I think I need to explore WordPress MU a bit more and find exactly what it can do that the standard can’t. Would it allow me to do a single install of WordPress and then just create sub blogs/sites all off of that single install? If so I that would be my preference. That way I could just create separate blogs for each individual course.

Thanks for those links. Sorry I didn’t do the search myself first.

May I ask which contact form plugin is breaking the editor? I’m trying to compile a list of possible causes of the disappearing 2.1 visual editor.

I imagine joelion meant 2.1.3 here, but I could be wrong.

I have been trying to solve the visual editor problems for weeks now. I’ve tried just about everything put out by the community. Now I’m moving back to 2.0.10 until things are more stable with the 2.1 series.

That is what is making finding the solution so difficult for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it’s a specifc host and sometimes it isn’t. I’m just hoping the update will take care of this.

Going a step further Michael, how about 2.1.3? Will it solve the visual editor problem and when will it be ready?

I think if that box is missing then you have the #3882 bug.

I think a lot of us are hoping that the final 2.1.3 release takes care of this problem. I played around with the problems I was having with the Vuisual Editor for about a week before I just gave up and decided to wait for a update fix.

There have been a lot of solutions posted and although some of them have worked for some people, I still have some 2.1.2 installs with the visual editor disappearing. I have come to the conclusion that for me it depends on which host I am using for the site. I have two sites running on identical WordPress installs on different hosts, using the exact same plugins and versions. One of them is working fine with no editor disappearing. The other has the disappearing visual editor problem. To me this means that the problem lies in the way the 2.1.2 install is working within the hosting environment.

With the one host, I also have 2.1 installs that are having problems with two very important plugins that I really can’t live without. When I activate the plugs, the editor breaks. Come to think of it, maybe I should contact my host support people and see if they have an idea…

The author of this plugin got back to me and answered my questions.

    1. Is now possible in version 1.3 of myGallery.

    2. Is now possible in version 1.3 of myGallery.

    3. Unfortunately, Lightbox does not do this.

Okay, I got it. I just created a new role called “Activate Plugins” within Role-Manager and the otion showed up again.

    Thanks for reading.
