We did move our site successfully and it was a piece of cake. I don;t understand why all the directions are SOO confusing for non-tech people. I found this website: http://www.mohitaneja.com/moving-wordpress-from-one-domain-to-another/

The instructions a re extremely clear and easy to follow. I hope this helps. The only steps that are missing here (they may not pertain to you) are – once you have followed the instructions to move your site – you may need to:

    * Set-up a 301 redirect. (Your web host can help you with this if you don;t know how to do it. I have Bluehost and they were very helpful.
    * Download and run the “update URL” plug-in. This just allows you to replace any instance of your old URL (within you site) to your new one.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

Thank you so much for the responses. I really appreciate it.

I know I sound like a nervous nelly here, but I want to just verify I understand the above instructions.

    – Move the database (which means copy all the files from my old domain’s folder to my new domain’s folder).
    – Login to PhPMyadmin and make those edits to the database (which I researched and actually think I understand).

Is that really it? Will I still need to run the “update URLS” plugin and change the “WordPress Address” and “Site Address” under General settings.

    Thanks again for the help.

Can I follow the directions for “Moving WordPress to a New Server?”

Thanks for the links. I have actually read both of these and – Unfortunately – I just don’t understand these instructions, which is why I was trying to explain what I thought I should do in the above post. I just need to know if I am way off the mark.

    Thanks again, though.

Thank you for the response. When you say “subfolder,” that would simply be a folder that is within my domain. So it would be mydomain.com/WP. Is that correct.

BTW – I didn’t intend for the “mydomain” URL to actually be a link. Sorry.
