You have to check whether or not, your server host allows you to connect to other servers.
If your plugin Askimet runs fine (because it needs to connect to other servers to run), then it’s Jetpack.
Yes i’ve got the same problem too.
Once i’ve entered the password, it redirects me to the admin panel… that absolutely not what I want!

just ad an .htaccess to push php5 and I can now run WordPress 2.9 RC1 !
