    Andrea_r . . . I have alternate personalities!

    I just emailed Jeff. He did some work for me before. Also, when reading through our emails . . . there was a problem with the domain mapping and logging into one of my domains (which is unmapped right now). From Jeff:

    I disabled the domain mapping plugin, and it looks like all sites work, and you can now successfully login to xyz. It had something to do with xyz not defining a specific domain. If you logged into RBM main site, it was kicking out the login attempts to xyz somehow because it was referring to it as xyz.RBM.com instead of standalone xyz.com.

    We’ll see!

    @ipstenu

    Those 3 lines are NOWHERE. Should I put them in somewhere? Honestly, this (the sunrise thing) is the first change I have tried to do. This file is EXACTLY what happened after the upgrade.

    Also, the weird install was a remark to Andrea-r; she helped with my installation.

    WPMU is not installed in the TOP domain at my hosting company . . . it is installed at the next level down. So, if xyz.com is the top domain; WPMU is installed on abc.xyz.com. Andrea_r made it all work! I worked with Andrea_r to get this up and going before the domain mapping upgrade – and I don’t think she made any changes to this file anyway.

    not sure?!? I *assume* you are not directing that at me! lol.

    Later tonight I will take out the “//” and see what happens.

    @andrea_r . . . I’m starting to wonder if this has to do with my unusual setup – remember? I wouldn’t think so . . . this plugin has worked before! No errors before the update. Perhaps I should be talking with the authors at this point.

    Sorry!

    No change in the error message.

    The relevant part of the file:

    define('DB_COLLATE', '');
    define('VHOST', 'yes');
    $base = '/';
    //define('DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'xyz' );
    //define('PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/' );
    //define('SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);
    //define('BLOGID_CURRENT_SITE', '1' );
    define( 'SUNRISE', 'on' );

    @ipstenu

    I tried putting it where I though you meant: above, define( “WP_USE_MULTIPLE_DB”, false ); (there was no other result for “multi” in my file)

    Same result.

    I put it in both places, same result.

    FYI. I am keeping the original wp-config file in a seperate file and not modifying; I do know a little. lol.

    @brnoyank – I haven’t fiddled with it at all. This was the FIRST attempt!

    @ipstenu – thank you for the suggestion!

    I moved it to where the message indicates it should be: move the line define( ‘SUNRISE’, ‘on’ ); above the last require_once() in that file. I then saved it as wp-config.php and uploaded it to the appropriate spot.

    I have verified that the file it is checking it correct . . . or what I understand to be correct. lol.

    So, I FINALLY got around to making this change . . . and you guessed it: the same error continues to show. Ideas?

    Thank you for the information.

    The additional information about what I “should” be . . . unnecessary. FYI, I RUN multisite with over 50 blogs – which are all mine. Thanks though.

    While this issue has a temporary fix in place . . . not really the one I want to have as the permanent fix.

    Andrea referred me to a great person who helped figure this out AND upgraded WPMU for me!

    Here is his synopsis:

    “I disabled the domain mapping plugin, and it looks like all sites work, and you can now successfully login to ****. It had something to do with **** not defining a specific domain. If you logged into RBM main site, it was kicking out the login attempts to **** somehow because it was referring to it as ***.~~RBM~~.com instead of standalone ****.com.”
    _________________________________

    So, now the domain name is not resolving as I would prefer AND I am afraid to try the domain mapping plugin since I wasn’t able to get past the login screen before.

    FYI – this all worked PERFECT for months . . . and then went “cafluey” BEFORE he did the upgrade and with no substantial changes before the error started occurring.

    ANY/ALL reasonable advice requested.

    Thanks!
