Thanks everyone for your help…as it turns out I had a second copy of WP installed in another directory from a different project. I was installing the theme in that one instead and didn’t realize it. Real slick. 😉
A separate folder is created automatically when the zip file extracts, so yes.
I did right click > File Attributes and got the following for all four (only two, classic and default are showing up):
Owner permissions
Read Write Execute
Group
Read Execute
Public
Read Execute
