    Looks like I spoke too soon! Since making these changes, I’ve started to have some draft orders appear, which I normally never get (except the spammy bulk kind). So I decided to make a purchase myself, and have discovered that the “Place Order” button on the Checkout page doesn’t work after selecting the credit/debit card payment option. Nothing happens other than a draft order being created. I really should have tested this first before publicly announcing it! I’ll have to disable it again until someone can assist me in getting it resolved.

    I’m pleased to report that I’ve managed to sort this out. Simply disabling ACP on the management page (second screenshot in my post above), saving the change, and then re-enabling using the button on the Payments page (first screenshot in my post above) seems to have fixed the problem.

    Images are all larger than required, and fully public. The OG meta tags are set, but have a curious last parameter: “ssl=1”. I don’t know what this refers to, but looks suspiciously like it’s related to security certificates (I’m presuming it’s something different, however). FWIW, sharing to Instagram (and Bluesky) work as expected.

    @ron07 I don’t see anything related to caching in the debugger. What am I missing?

    I’m not sure I completely understand what you’re saying. I’m not using any security plug-ins, nor is there anything new on the server (it’s a self-managed VPS). I suspect the 403 error reported by the debugger is a red herring. I think I’ll have to interrogate the error logs at this point.

    Turns out I don’t have a robots.txt file, but that doesn’t rule it out as being an issue I guess.

    Thanks for the tips! I had no idea about the sharing debugger. Using it with the newest URL to experience the issue, the debugger reports “Bad Response Code URL returned a bad HTTP response code” (403 in this case). The results page “suggests” that it could be caused by the robots.txt file, so I’ll take a look at that next.

    Excellent! Thanks for your comprehensive response. Logging out and back in again resolved the issue – though I had trouble logging back in again, as the app wouldn’t recognise my password, and I had to use FaceID.

    In any case, thanks again for helping me resolve this minor but annoying issue. And now I know what to do next time!

    I’m getting more reports of this issue from customers now, and it seems to be affecting all credit card payments. One customer reported the issue when attempting to use his credit card, but was able to pay successfully using PayPal funds. I’ve logged a support ticket with Woocommerce, but would still appreciate any help or feedback here also.

    Many thanks for your reply, Shameem. Regenerating the download permissions did indeed fix the problem! As far as I’m aware, this is a one-off case, but if someone else reports the same problem in the future, I know what to try first.

    Thanks for the SMTP tip. Coincidentally, I spent a good part of yesterday configuring Sendlayer and WP Mail SMTP, so I have my fingers crossed that this will help with that particular problem at least.

    As far as the caching goes, it’s an unmanaged VPS, so the ball’s in my court with that one.

    Thanks for that, @shameemreza. Unfortunately our caching is at the server level as part of Nginx, so fiddling with WordPress plug-ins isn’t going to help (happy to be proved wrong, however).

    The email situation is also out of our hands, as we are forced to use GoDaddy’s SMTP relay network, and at any given time, a large number of these servers are on a whole bunch of block lists. All the sites I run from that particular VPS suffer the same, WordPress or not. That said, I know for a fact that the order confirmation emails do often end up in the customer’s spam/junk folder, so if you could recommend a good SMTP plug-in to help reduce that, I’m all ears!

    Thanks. There’s no historical data to import, and the analytics I’m referencing refer only to August 2022. But I’ll click the button and try it anyway. For refunds, I always use the method you linked to, and in almost all cases, it’s a 100% refund.
