    alanmcd963,

I’m not sure myself. I didn’t know exactly what he deleted, my assumption was that he deactivated the plugin and deleted it, then reinstalled it. Because the problem was so random, I didn’t try it myself. It seems rightsedfred may have had good luck with this. If that didn’t work for you and no one else posts anything here, perhaps you should try your hosting company to see if they can help out.
I’ll be watching to see how things go in case this happens again. It really sucked.

Unfortunately I couldn’t decipher that information from the tech because I hit him with about 4 sites at once. I’m thinking he may have uninstalled and reinstalled the theme maybe?

    alanmcd963,

I spoke to my hosting company (bluehost.com), they deleted and reinstalled some files and that fixed the problem. They were unable to identify why this problem came up, however that action fixed the problem totally.
I believe it has something to do with a particular plugin. Here is why I believe that. I went to do the updates on another site I run and it produced a white screen. the bluehost team did the same thing as above and the website is back up and running again.
I will not close this or mark resolved yet until I see if the resolution sticks AND I hear from others who have either seen this work, not work or ran into the same problem.

Have a great day and hope yours resolves too!

Yes, that did help a little bit but I feel like I should be able to tighten it up even more. Any thoughts?

I have a second question: I am extremely new to wordpress and have been doing everything without a child theme. My hesitancy (and fear of screwing up) is my lack of experience. Since I already have an established wordpress theme, can you tell me the steps necessary to create a child theme from what I have done already?

I have been building this site behind a normal dreamweaver built site. Once I am done building, I will be moving this site to become the main site.
