In reply to: Altering content in Catch Kathmandu footerThanks! The trouble you observed was due to a missing footer.php file. Adding it solved that problem so now I can use your suggestions. Thanks again.

In reply to: Altering content in Catch Kathmandu footerI did not learn how to edit that line but this conversation did solve the larger problem that was causing trouble.

In reply to: Altering content in Catch Kathmandu footerThat actually helped me identify a problem that I did not realize was there. Namely the file footer.php was somehow completely missing from the theme folder.
I’ve fixed that but would like to be able to edit this rather than turn it off.
The website is http://sacredcacti.com
The “ad” for Catch Kathmandu does not bother me but I would like to be able to edit the text on the left where it says “Copyright © 2015 Trout’s Notes All Rights Reserved”.
I would also be just as happy to find a way to remove those words as I could easily place them in a widget in the footer.Forum: Themes and Templates

In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendI made some progress maybe in finding the right page but am being told my URL is not a valid RSS feed.
I apparently may need more instructions than seems reasonable to ask for as I have no clue how to resolve that or even where to start.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendThanks.
I’ve read that and everything else I can find on tutorials.
All of the instructions seemed to be clear to me except *where to start* and how to get the existed list of subscribers recognized.
I’m told in the instructions to look for an orange launch new campaign button but am not told where to find it. (The words Navigate to campaigns left me wondering the location since nothing I could find said campaigns.) From what I can determine using online searches I apparently have to do that from the mailchimp website itself?
Thinking that was the case I created an account at MailChimp’s website, entered the details it asked for and tried that route. I found a launch new campaign button there (white rather than orange) but when following the instructions was told that I have no subscribers despite 80 being signed up as of last night.
Clearly I am missing something that is probably simple. I’m guessing I’ve not yet found the right starting point?
Thanks.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendI have been searching since yesterday trying to find something offering me any option to start a Mailchimp RSS campaign.
What am I missing? Is this something that requires another plug-in to get mailchimp to function?
Thanks for any advice.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendWow, I may be spending time on something quite different than what I had thought.
I had misunderstood Mail Chimp to be something that notified subscribers of new content.
Reading the instructions on Mail Chimp says that it is an option for those people who prefer to read emails rather than visiting a website and it simply recreates my post into becoming the content of an email.
At least I am starting to get a clearer picture although clearly if I decide to set up that RSS campaign I am going to have to find help to explain what is being said in those instructions.
Thanks for your assistance in getting me to this point. I would have been spinning my wheels for a lot longer.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendThanks.
I will look into that. Someone else actually set up the site and configured Mail Chimp on my behalf while I was still totally ignorant about WordPress (I’m steadily learning now) so I’ll see whatever needs to be completed to make that occur.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendI am probably wording my comments badly.
The problem I was having was with MailChimp managing subscribers. There are 74 subscribers signed up not counting my 4 attempts.
Mail Chimp is supposed to send a notification of new blog posts to those subscribers.
That is what is not occurring.
It does sent an email asking that they confirm their subscription but that is the only contact they receive from it.
A friend who was not receiving the confirmation email did receive it a day later.
I’ve also heared back now from other subscribers who say they have never received anything other than the confirmation email.I’m just trying to get Mail Chimp to send notifications of new content to subscribers.
However:
Your advice on the SMTP DID completely resolve an unrelated problem I had been having with a gmail-based mailing list involving 8 people though!
Thanks on all of that.Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress] new post notifications not being sendThat appeared to work as far as getting the plug in to be able to send me a test email.
Thanks for your patience with my confusion.I tried making a test blog post to test Mail Chimp and Mail Chimp still is not sending any notice to subscribers (checking four separate email addresses; one of which was gmail).

Google sent me a notice they had blocked my attempt:“If this was you
You can switch to an app made by Google such as Gmail to access your account (recommended) or change your settings at https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps so that your account is no longer protected by modern security standards. “This is increasingly confusing.
How can MailChimp actually work if google doesn’t respect people requesting it and confirming they want to subscribe? (Or recognizing me due to knowing my own password?) Decreasing protections seems backwards.
Thanks though!
