No security plugin installed. I have also reinstalled a fresh WP version and I still get the same error message. This is a subdomain with forum.xyz.com and I don’t have this issue with the main domain.

Great thanks. By the way I am using the Zerif light theme. I have just activated the Twenty Twelve theme and only run bbpress und Buddypress plugins and the same problem remains. It might be a problem relating to any of the two plugins though, but when I deactivate both and I try to login through wp-login it sais that the website cannot be found.

thanks. I am not entirely sure, but I have not made any changes to the functions.php file. I have just uploaded a fresh copy and the problem remains.
Where would I check whether there is IP whitelisting in the functions.php file?
