The link above doesn’t work but I changed the
‘Site Address (URL)’ to remove the W and my site
disappeared.

Strangely when the server couldn’t find the main site it defaulted to
http://williamwalsh.eu/photography/works-in-print-gallery
which is presumably another direct link I created at one point but is no longer valid.

If I need to remove the W to make these direct URLs work then why is
http://www.williamwalsh.eu/overthehills/
still up and running?

thanks for your help, how would one format the link after editing the slug,

if I change the permalink I get
http://www.williamwalsh.eu/w/lightofday
as my WP folder is called W on my host server.

In the original example though I’ve somehow managed to get away with:
http://www.williamwalsh.eu/overthehills/
