Thanks for your prompt reply. The pictures I purchased are in the 800 to 900 range.
Is there anything I can do with a photo program like iPhoto to correct this? (i.e.: crop, etc.)

I inserted the picture as a “featured image” and updated the slide. The featured picture appears on the bottom right corner in edit mode. However, The slide still shows the same main picture (the one that is inserted as the theme header).
What step am I missing?
I’d appreciate some direction.
