In reply to: Core re-install fails – repeatedlyFixed.
I combed through the FTP and rooted out 7 instances of default.php running in various folders and subs. Some were from old pre-WP versions of the site.Once I deleted all of them – and did some other maintenance on the FTP – all functionality returned AND I was able to do automatic core reinstall.
Thank you for all of your help.

In reply to: Core re-install fails – repeatedlyI tried subs when I first did the install for thegoalienet, but it kept failing – GD support said it was because we were redirecting http://www.thegoalienet.com to the sub. Their advice was use folders instead.

In reply to: Core re-install fails – repeatedlyI did switch to 2012. But switched back when the fixes didn’t work. Had to reactivate plugins to keep business.
Again, are there any files in the install that I need to tweak or add to? That’s the part that worries me, not knowing what files to change.
Could I do the same via GoDaddy? Just copy me content folder to my desktop – I know it’s huge – and the reinstall from GD, then replace blank WP-content with my saved one?

In reply to: Core re-install fails – repeatedlyThe manual install scares me, honestly. I’m not sure what my database name and all that other stuff is and how/where to change it.
Are there certain files I can look at in my FTP first to see what database names, user/pass, etc. I need to remember?
On a manual reinstall, should I upload everything EXCEPT the contents folder – don’t want to lose my posts, pages, etc.Is TwentyTwelve the default theme? Should I try the core re-install from dashboard AFTER I’ve switched to default and deactivated plugins?

In reply to: Widgets won't move, media button won't work, kitchen sink gone, etcGave me: “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete. Please try this again.”
Tried to do it again. Went to 500 error and now back to The service is unavailable.
So, frustrating.

In reply to: Widgets won't move, media button won't work, kitchen sink gone, etcI did the re-install from the wp dashboard.
Now, all I’m getting is “The service is unavailable.”DISREGARD: Just came back online after 10 minutes. “Patience, young Padwan.”
I’ll check functionality now.

In reply to: Widgets won't move, media button won't work, kitchen sink gone, etcOK. Cool, thanks.
What about plugin folders. I have some sophisticated plugins on the TGN side to handle memberships. Will those stay intact as well? (I guess they will, because they’re housed in wp-content.)
And, about getting the database user/pass right on the fresh install? Are there certain lines in certain files that I can copy to a blank document and use to redo the databases?
You are a great help, by the way. I really appreciate this.

In reply to: Widgets won't move, media button won't work, kitchen sink gone, etcThank you for the quick response.
Yes, we tried deactivating plugins and reactivating them and could not isolate a problematic plugin. I tried even deleting oddball or suspect plugins to see if one of them was causing a problem. Still not luck.
Tried the default theme. That didn’t work either. We updated exisiting themes with no luck.
I haven’t tried the resetting plugins thing – first I’ve heard of that one. I will give that a go.
UPDATE:
Just tried resetting the plugins. That did not solve the issues.I haven’t done the complete reload, because, well – I’m scared. There are a lot of files and posts and videos on the TGN side and I’m afraid to lose months of work. Also, I’m not real strong on how to “install” WP manually and get all of the databases, passwords, etc. correct. I use GoDaddy to install WP. It handles all of that scary stuff for me.

In reply to: Drag and drop widgets won't workThanks, Josh.
I did update my plugins and my themes (both installs are running themes from the same builder and their forum suggests updating would clear up the drag-drop issue; it didn’t.)
I deactivated all plugins and still wasn’t able to recover the drag-drop functionality. I haven’t tried switching to TwentyTwelve theme yet – will do that next.
I’m wondering if one of my plugins running on both installs is out of date with the current WP. Is it possible that would cause the drag-drop issue?
Also, can you explain what the deprecated error actually means? I’m not a coder, but I like to try to understand what the problem is I’m facing.
Again thanks for any help you can offer.
