  • There are any number of books that can be bought (or borrowed from a local library), but a great place to start learning for free is on the W3Schools site. Here’s the link specifically for PHP: http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp.

You can also do a Google search for “PHP Tutorials”, or something similar.

@united79 I’m not sure why your other thread was closed. You’re not using WordPress.com. I think there was a misunderstanding due to the typo in your link (you put http://www.replayimage/wordpress.com instead of http://www.replayimage.com/wordpress).

To answer your question, I haven’t personally used any plugins that enable thumbnails in widgets, other than to find that they do, in fact, exist. I found one called “Advanced Most Recent Posts Mod”, but I don’t know much about it. It just enabled a thumbnail to appear on my testing site that I mentioned in the other thread.

That link that you posted is for WordPress.com, not a WordPress.org installation on your own host. WordPress.com has created a document that outlines the differences: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

However, even on WordPress.com, you should be able to upload some videos as part of their free service. On a new blog, when clicking the video link, it displays this message underneath the section that allows you to upload:

“3 GB upload space remaining. You can upload mp3, m4a, wav, ogg audio files and increase your available space with a Space Upgrade. You can upload videos and embed them directly on your blog with a Video Upgrade.”

You may need to contact JustHost to find out if they have a restriction on video uploading, or to find out if they set up your WordPress install using WordPress.com.

First and foremost, if you haven’t done so already, I would recommend reading Using_the_Support_Forums. “HELP!” is not a very descriptive subject.

In regards to the $59 for video…. That’s not default WordPress behavior. It’s possible that your hosting provider added that in there and doesn’t let you upload videos without an extra fee. Who is your host? Did they setup and configure WordPress automatically for you, or did you set it up and configure it yourself?

You know, I really don’t think that the thumbnail images are supposed to be there at all. I downloaded that same theme and set it up on a testing site, just to see these theme-specific options you mentioned. It appears that the only option is just to add a sidebar. I don’t see anything that indicates that the thumbnails are supposed to also show up as part of the theme.

It looks like what you need to do is find a plugin that adds the ability to show recent posts with thumbnails in a widget, and then use that widget instead of the default Recent Posts widget.

You can see my testing site here: http://www.espdesignconsulting.com/testingsite/

In regards to your header image, the white border doesn’t have anything to do with the CSS. The image itself has a white border around the left, right, and bottom. You’ll have to edit the image to remove the white.

I’m not sure about the thumbnails. They’re not in the HTML code for the page, so whatever widget is responsible for displaying the sidebar isn’t including the thumbnails. I would double-check that they are actually supposed to be there (according to the widget information).

Glad to help out! We were all new at this at some point, so you’re not the only one to ever encounter problems or misunderstandings when first getting started.

In that case, I would try for a refund. Then you only have to wait a maximum of 5 days (maybe less).

If it were me, I would cancel it, and then re-register it with the hosting provider of my choice. But frankly, the decision is yours to make.

It looks like you can either cancel the domain, or just keep the domain with WordPress.com for now, and point the nameservers to FatCow. I personally like to keep domains with the hosts, but again, the decision is yours to make.

My recommendation would be to try to get a refund from WordPress.com. If that is not possible, you need to transfer the domain from WordPress.com to FatCow.com. Unfortunately, that’s really outside the realm of WordPress.org (which is a separate entity from WordPress.com), and your best option would be to contact one or both hosting providers.

Once you have your domain set up and WordPress installed to your own server, then you will be able to install the theme, and you shouldn’t have any more problems.

Can you transfer your domain? Technically yes, but that depends on how easily WordPress.com will let it go to another hosting provider. I would contact the support (or check FAQs or other resources) for WordPress.com to see about transferring a domain to another host. They’re the ones who control it, so they are the ones who have to let it go. Once you find out what you need on the WordPress.com side, check with FatCow.com’s support to see what needs to be done on their side.

Of course, when you set up your account with FatCow.com, they should have included a domain name, and they can’t include one that is owned by another host… What domain name is currently associated to your FatCow.com account?

Well, I do believe we have found our problem, then. Somehow, your blog is being managed by WordPress.com, which does not allow you to install your own themes. This is different than a normal WordPress installation on your own server, where you have full control.

How did you set this up? Is it all set up through WordPress.com, or did you purchase a domain from a host that is separate from WordPress.com?

Wait, I just noticed something… at the bottom of your page it says “Theme: TwentyTen Blog at WordPress.com”.

When you are at the Manage Themes page, what is the actual URL that is displayed in your address bar?

Are you able to use the previous link, or does it still say that the page cannot be found? If not found, can you post a screenshot of your admin page?

    First try this:

    1. Revert to the TwentyTen theme
    2. Disable any plugins you may have activated
