In reply to: Question ??The ninjablogsetup people are of no help now, they feel as though they have done their part but I don’t see it that way.
I agree with them. Their services are free for crying out loud. When you buy a car, do you expect the dealership to teach you how to drive?
Why don’t you start on the front page of http://www.wordpress.org?
Read about posting, setting up blog categories, set up some categories on your blog, make a few posts. It’s really not rocket science.
You can only learn by DOING, and no one is going to do it for you. You can’t expect a Vulcan mind meld to occur. Just get your feet wet, read, search for specific tasks you want to accomplish. You should have that lightbulb moment soon enough.

In reply to: Examples of WP that don’t look like blogs? This one blows me away. It’s using a plugin that makes WP behave like an ezine or portal:

In reply to: Help! Widget Issues.snark = stuff i knew i shouldn’t have done but went ahead and did anyway and then got pissy because someone called me on it. {{snort}}
And this .. isn’t snark. It’s plain ole fact. With a lot of sarcasm thrown in for good measure.
Of course you have a clue what to look up, search for. Use the terms you use in your original post to this forum. It’s not that hard.

In reply to: Where is the Admin Panel? So you have an admin account? The master account? There’s no reason then that you shouldn’t be able to do more than just write and manage. Are you logging in with the admin account? The one that was used to set up WP?

In reply to: Where is the Admin Panel? You must not have full rights to the back end of the blog. Are you the blog’s owner?

In reply to: Reading list, wish list for books, dvd, cd, amazon itemsThere are several Now Reading/Listening/Watching plugins that do this. And others that can generate your Amazon Wish List as well.
I quite like Addictions to generate a Now Reading/Listening/Watching/Playing list where you can be as brief or descriptive as you want:
http://milkcarton.protonage.net/plugins/addictionsYou can see it in action here:

In reply to: Multiple pages for different categoriesI’d really appreciate it you guys could answer it for me. (rather than just pasting a link to another thread.)
Why? Don’t want to click through to read the solution?
You are using WP pages all wrong; they are out of the post hierarchy and therefore out of the category hierarchy. Just create custom category pages for each category that you want. On each custom category template, you can insert conditional tags in the sidebar to generate the desired adsense code (I guess this is what you are getting at; but doesn’t Google serve up the ads according to content anyway so this isn’t really necessary?).
Read about custom category pages here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Category_TemplatesAnd conditional code here:

In reply to: Examples of WP that don’t look like blogs?Very nice, redhousepainter. The design is not heavy-handed to allow the artwork to shine thru. Might want to correct this nit on the artists page, the lead-in sentence:
Alphabetical by fist name.😉Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Looking for a ThemeUsually tho google compensates for that. Well, at least it corrects my spelling mistakes! 🙂 The original Mimbo theme, IMHO (the free one) is a lot more “user friendly” and less complicated. Also easier to change the design to suit, since it’s not relying too much on background graphics. I find the latest Mimbo (2.2? Mimbo Pro?) a bit too dark.
If you’re looking for general magazine type themes, there’s tons of those out there, just google for this:
wordpress magazine themeand you’ll find many good ones such as Grid, Branford Magazine, and more.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Looking for a ThemeDidn’t bother me, just wanted to be sure YOUR stay here is pleasant. There are some real wolverines here and they don’t suffer noobs gladly. 😉
