With regard to WP Super Cache based on this recommended install and settings: http://support.tigertech.net/wordpress-performance
The above recommendations are for TigerTech hosting. Not all of their settings worked as my hosting is BlueHost.com and just had to uncheck:
Advanced –> Miscellaneous: “Compress pages so they’re served more quickly to visitors. (Recommended)
Compression is disabled by default because some hosts have problems with compressed files. Switching it on and off clears the cache.”The note was right-on with some conflicts will occur with some hosts.
Would like to thank tigertech too for the excellent install/settings tutorial for WP Super Cache!

The path to the thumbnail files are:
wp-content–> gallery–> portfolio–> thumbs
or:
http://www.yourwebsitenamehere.com/wp-content/gallery/portfolio/thumbs/thumbs_abc.jpg

Click on “Images” tab. Enter desired pixel size in “Resize” Images field. Click “Save”
On more step as the Gallery has to generate the new size.
In the Gallery panel click “Manage Gallery”…Click on the gallery you’d like to resize the images.
Click the “ID” box, Click on the “No Action” pulldown menu and select “Resize Image”, Click “OK”. You’ll see a red progress bar until it’s done.
Click “Save Changes”… You are all set!
