My advice is try it on a copy of your site, if it doesn’t work, don’t waste time on it, find something similar that works.

So was I. I upgraded another site straight to WP 2.6 – and the geo plugin and “Plug and Play google maps” is works on that. Hurragh! I’d try upgrading.
While I was looking at alternatives I found these which are worth a look, not exactly the same, but some nice features and both being supported and developed.
