Thanks Matthew. I went through each and every plugin and about 15 minutes ago figured out it was the WP Retina 2x plugin. It created a srcset tag instead of src and that was throwing Firefox off for some reason. Not every time but fairly consistently. Interested to go back through and find a work around. Anyone else have Retina plugin or code solutions?
