Updating works ok for me, at least when I edit my own profile (I run WordPress 2.9). However, I think I have the same problem, the info in the fields just disappear when I click update when I am editing another users profile (and I am logged in as admin).
I haven’t found any other plugin that adds custom, so it is much appreciated. However, a possibility to rearrange the fields would be make it much better!
