Update
After some experiments with different editors for spreadsheet I found that Open Office was the one to use.
For other users I will emphasize that it is important to choose
Character set = UTF-8
Language = appropriate local
separated by = ,
Other Options = Quoted field as text
Then when opened select the entire sheet and format cells as text
I hope this will help others with similar problems

Update
Now I also have tried the advanced import/export.
The good news is that now my single user is imported and adress fields together with phone number is updated as well – good.
The bad news is that instead of updating the users email it now erasing it.
