Thanks. I see the better-howdy, lighter-menus and similar plugins all use jQuery to make the substitute, so will obviously run client-side, and only if javascript is enabled in the browser.
For a more elegant solution, I am interested in knowing if there is a way of writing a plugin so the substitution is executed server-side with php?
