In reply to: [Wired Impact Volunteer Management] GDPR and Data Storage PolicyGreat question @teejyweej. While we’re not experts in GDPR, we’re happy to help clarify what happens with the plugin’s data. All of the data collected when someone expresses interest in a volunteer opportunity is stored directly within your website’s database.
The only information sent to a third-party would be for Google Analytics tracking. The plugin sends an event to Google Analytics when actions such as an RSVP success or failure occur. The plugin doesn’t send any personal information during that process though and this data is only tracked if you have Google Analytics set up on your website.
Let us know if you have any follow up questions. We’re happy to clarify as needed.
Perfect, we’ll look out for the release next week. Thanks again for the help.
Thanks for the quick response @rogierlankhorst. We would probably prefer to update the plugin once a new version is released with the fix. Do you have any idea when that would be?
Also, do you know if the existing code is causing any other issues outside of the PHP notice we’re seeing?
Hi Heather, since we haven’t heard from you in a little while I’m going to mark this resolved. If you have any questions in the future don’t hesitate to reach out!

@jeff501 and @zanimul, good news on this front. Our team was able to get to this more quickly than expected and we just released an update to fix the critical error introduced in WordPress 6.1. If you install the newest version of the plugin your site should function as expected, and any board information saved previously should still remain in place.
Let me know how everything looks once you’ve had a chance to upgrade. Thanks again for reporting the issue!
Thanks @jeff501 and @zanimul for reporting this. It looks like this is likely a bug in WordPress 6.1. I see reports online here and here. It also seems like the WordPress Core team is already working on a fix for the WordPress 6.1.1 release.
For some background, it looks like this is caused by some code we’re running to grab the board members pretty early in the WordPress loading process. WordPress 6.1 tries to cache the results, but certain code isn’t available yet, causing the error you’re seeing.
You have a few options at this point:
- Leave the plugin disabled until WordPress rolls out a new release or we update the plugin code. For us, I’d imagine we can get something out the door in the next two weeks.
- You can add a must-use plugin that includes the code at https://stackoverflow.com/a/74307521/868082. It requires some technical work, but it would allow you to use the plugin immediately. Just make sure to remove that must-use plugin when WordPress or our team releases a fix.
I’m heading out of town shortly, but I’ll be back in touch as soon as I have an update on this. Thanks for being patient with us.
That approach sounds good Heather. We’ll wait to hear from you. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Thanks for sending over the Mailchimp API key Heather.
I know you mentioned you discussed with Mailchimp support. Did you have a chance to reach out to the support team for MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress? I’d love to know if they’ve seen anything like this before. That might help point us in the right direction.
Thanks for the extra details Heather. Our first goal in any situation like this is to replicate the problem. We actually set up a testing website today specifically for this purpose, but we’re not able to use the MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress plugin since we don’t have a Mailchimp account within our company. That made it difficult to play around with different scenarios so we could figure out what’s going on.
We did spend some time going through our code to look for anything that might be accidentally adjusting other user settings. It’s definitely possible that’s happening, but we didn’t find anything during our review.
At this point I’d recommend one of two steps:
- If you’d like us to spend more time testing, we’ll need a Mailchimp API key we can use. We understand if you feel uncomfortable sharing one, but if you’d like to go this route, please send it our way by filling out the form at https://secure.wiredimpact.com/.
- The other option is to reach out to the support team for MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress to check if they have seen a situation like this before. It could be easier for them to troubleshoot since our plugin doesn’t interact with any third-party tools like Mailchimp.
Let us know what you think and if we don’t talk to you, have a great weekend.
I’m sorry you’re dealing with that Heather and I’m happy to help you figure out what’s going on. Can you answer a few questions for us:
- What plugin are you using to handle your website’s integration with Mailchimp? That will help us determine if there’s a conflict.
- Have you had a chance to test the issue directly? For example, by creating a user and subscriping them in Mailchimp, then signing up for a volunteer opportunity to see if they are then unsubscribed.
- Just to confirm, are you using the most updated versions of WordPress and our volunteer management plugin?
That should be enough to help us look into things on our end.
Thanks and have a great weekend!

I’m happy to help @pallavi273. Can you give us a little more information on where you’re running into issues and possibly provide a link so we can see the issue?
Each new volunteer opportunity should automatically show a form to express interest. If you’re not seeing the forms it often means the website’s theme is conflicting with the plugin.
Once we have a little more information hopefully we can find a solution.
