But for the benefit of folks who may read this later, there are over 25,000 plugins available for WordPress, so there’s lots of things that can go wrong. There’s the chance of an incompatibility with another plugin, incompatibility with your server PHP settings, or even something as simple as running out of memory due to one plugin too many! It’s always wise to make a backup of your database before installing new plugins.
That said, if incompatibilities should cause a white screen even in the admin area, you can always manually delete the files from the wp-content/plugins directory.

Versions 1.7 and above addressed this issue, and version 1.9 and above don’t use curl at all.
