However, there could be some slight styling conflicts at play here with your theme or another plugin.

As a starting point, I would recommend adjusting the “Default stylesheet used for events templates” and “Events template” settings under Events > Settings > Display. These affect how much events pages inherit their styling from the theme. Ultimately, you may also need to add some CSS to get this displaying exactly the way that you would like.

First, it sounds like you might be referring to recurring events (a feature of our premium plugin Events Calendar Pro) when you mention linking to the main page of an event series. If so, we are not able to provide any support for our premium plugins here per WordPress forum guidelines. You would need to create a ticket for this over on our Help Desk.

Regarding your second question about event categories (a feature of The Events Calendar), you could potentially change the links on the calendar to point to the category page instead of the individual event page. Our themer’s guide has instructions on doing template overrides and is the place to start if you would like to make this change.
