After running a page speed test the images look like they may need to be resized to fit the containers. That is not something Smush does. Other more pressing issues are connected to Minification, caching and render-blocking JS.

I would also suggest looking at the hosting and making sure it matches the quality you need for speeding up your site.

I am very sorry to hear it is not making things easier for you as this is the intent of every patch and bug fix.
