In case it’s useful, the original error message I got when the update failed is this:

“Warning: require_once(/websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/10/mh/_n/10mh.net/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-screen.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/10/mh/_n/10mh.net/public_html/wp-admin/includes/admin.php on line 53

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/10/mh/_n/10mh.net/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-screen.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php53/share/pear:/usr/local/php53/share/php’) in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/10/mh/_n/10mh.net/public_html/wp-admin/includes/admin.php on line 53″

Any help very gratefully received. I’ve looked at many forum topics but no luck so far.

    Hello again,
Thanks for responding so far, I thought it might be an idea to show exactly what I’ve been doing and then you can tell me where I’m going wrong!
So, step by step, this is what I’ve done:

    Deleted all users except admin
    Emptied media library
    Deactivated WordPress Importer plugin
Clicked Tools -> Import -> WordPress
Browse and chose XML document of 4.73 MB
    Upload file and import
    Import 2 authors
Download and import file attachments – checked
Title: ‘Import WordPress’, rest of screen blank/grey
Go to media library – 96 pictures showing as ‘unattached’, xml file is here as text file
    2 users added as Subscribers
    No posts
    No pages

    All advice gratefully received!
    Thanks in advance.

I hope so! Have heard good things about .org but this has me banging my forehead on the keyboard quite a bit…

Right. I just tried this again, deleted everything in the media library, deleted the other non-admin users (there are two writers on the .com site) even deleted the importer plugin and started from scratch.

Did Tools -> Import and then followed it from there.

Still ended up in the media library again.

I’ve no idea what I’m missing, there was no error message after the import… Any ideas anyone?!

Yes, tried the export/import procedure as listed in all the advice and tutorials.

Have gone back and deleted everything from the media library and started again, same effect. The file only appears in the media library.

Is there anything else I can try? Starting to really regret leaving WordPress.com!
