Hi Imran, likewise and thank you very much for the detailed followup! I’m replying in the email thread now.
Thank you, Patrick. I just sent the email according to your instructions (to wpsupport@incsub.com, which I saw in another forum thread – let me know if I should send to a different address).
Hi, here are results from further testing per Saurabh’s suggestions. Bottom line is that the “Error! Something went wrong during checkout and payment couldn’t be approved.” still occurred in each test done today where the checkout was completed. Previously I had selected “I am renewing my membership” in the first field; for each test today I instead selected “I am joining for the first time.”
Test 1. Filled out the standard membership form with reCAPTCHA v3, using the “PayPal Checkout” button. Got the checkout error.
Test 2. Duplicated the form, removed and re-added the PayPal field on it, set to Sandbox. (All previous tests have been with the field set to Live.) Clicked the “PayPal Checkout” button, got a PayPal login screen. Upon trying to log in with either an existing business sandbox account or a personal non-sandbox account, got a “no [PayPal] account associated with this email” error in the login screen.
Test 3. So started over with same config as in Test 2, and clicked the “Debit or Credit Card” button. [Side note: in some configurations only “PayPal Checkout” and “Venmo Checkout” buttons appear; in others, “Pay Later” or “PayPal CREDIT Checkout” and “Debit or Credit Card” buttons appear as well, and I haven’t figured out the pattern for which buttons appear when.] Filled out and submitted credit card info, got the usual checkout error.
Test 4. Switched the PayPal field to Live. Clicked the PayPal Checkout button and was able to complete submission. Got the checkout error.
The only field selection variation I’ve tried is first-time vs. renewing membership. I don’t really want to try any higher membership amounts than $35 since I’m actually paying that amount on every test (since I can’t get PayPal sandbox to work). I could try varying the newsletter field selection, but that seems really unlikely to make a difference.
Are there perhaps any settings within my client’s PayPal account that could be causing these issues?
Hi Saurabh, thank you for the quick testing and reply. Good to know that your test payment was successful. I’ll try the testing steps you’ve listed and will share the results.
