    Thanks for your post. What I mean by I don’t have control is that once this problem occurs my data, my posts are lost. BECAUSE I can’t import from the old installation from a new one and I cannot get into the old installation to export to the new one.

    As I said mysql and the system is working wonderfully.
    I have been with this host for ten years.
    I have fifteen sites running.
    And old wp application where I essentially created all the old code except for wp innards works great.

    But I would never in a thousand years attempt to upgrade it. Its destruction would be disastrous.

    No, it is something to do with how wp handles the db connection and resolves it. It obviously reads the config file because that is at the top of the includes list before this error occurs.

    I just have to stop my world, stop serving customers and take the time reduce the wp crank up code to nuts and bolts.

    Sometime I long for the good old days when everything resolved to 64 instructions. It was a controldata 6600 in 1968 and we ran the entire world of spy satellites on it.
