nope that had no affect.
I suppose my next step is to do a new reinstall of 2.7 clean and then try and shoehorn my old database into it 🙁 Wish me luck.
Strange that no-one has come across this before though.

Penfil : My database details in wp-config.php are correct I can access the database from the command line & phpmyadmin. I’m not sure what you mean by “special keys” . Yes I can see my blog, I just can’t get into edit it – http://irvken.net/blog
ShaneG : the data base upgrade request preceded this problem (… and might be the cause of it?). Re changing the database password – unless you have any other ideas I will do this later, doesn’t feel like the solution though 🙁
s’ok, I hadn’t unzipped wp-includes, working now
I have a similar problem, I accidenatlly zipped up everything in the wordpress folder when I unzipped the page was blank, but all looks correct.
