It does seem to be an issue with the theme. When I change it, I can see the titles. Is there anything I can do? I’d rather use a different calendar plugin than change the theme.

I did find a setting to adjust font size, but it doesn’t change how much of the title is visible. It seems to be set based on length of character string, not font size.
If you go to your WordPress Dashboard, then click Appearance in the left column, then click Customize below that, in the page that opens click The Events Calendar in the left column. You should be able to customize the calendar’s colors under each setting category there.
