I deleted and reinstalled as you suggested and that immediately cured the lack of movement problem, but it was still just showing the tops of the pictures. I cured that by adding a number of hard returns immediately after the installed code for the slideshow. I suspect that the number of returns needed is dependent on the size of the images.
