In reply to: Could someone help me interpret this error message?I have access to my host’s control panel, but not wp-admin. I have a monthly backup that appears to have been made before this all went down (hopefully.)
I don’t know whether i should download blog.sql or everything all of the .sql files. Do I just backup all of them?
I was able to download a fresh copy of my theme just in case.

Okay – let’s see if I can understand this.Sorry for all the questions. I have never done anything like this before and have about 5 years of posts to lose.
1) When you say re upload all files and folders – should I do a backup?
2) Can I just switch my theme to the default WordPress theme and then switch it back rather than messing with my folder theme name? Why would labeling it “old” make a difference?
3) When I rename my theme “-old” – can I change it back later and use my old theme?
4) After this, will I be able to get into my admin panel at this point to do the upgrade? My host told me I needed to upgrade from there.
5) when you say upload all files and folders – you mean just reinstall WP – right?
