    Hi,
    I’ve succeeded!!!! 🙂
I can’t believe it but I succeeded to get rid of the Meta and Blogroll.
Unfortunately it worked only with other themes and not with HeatMap – which is the one that I like the most.
I have no other choice but to ditch the HeatMap and use another theme, which is very unfortunate.

Anyway – here is what I did, in case someone is interested: (version 3.0.1):
As of today, the Apearance>widgets suddenly had an “add” button next to every widget (which wasn’t there yesterday, so I suppose someone fixed it – so thank you for that).
I clicked on the “add” button and it opened a “window”, where I could check the boxes (after choosing the “check to hide” option).
I checked all the boxes and the Meta and blogroll have magically disappeared 🙂
Now I hope it would hold, so I won’t have to check the boxes every time…
    Thank you very much 🙂

Sorry for the typos… Just saw them

    Hi James,
Thanks. The thing is that the “Blogroll” (“links”) amd “Meta” are not in the sidebar. (All the sidebars spaces are empty. I think it’s WP version 3.0.1 since I’ve just installed it).
The blogroll and Meta apear under: “available wiggets”. (a list which is saparated from the sidebars).
I’ve dragged them into “inactive widgets” (also saparated list)- several times – and clicked “save”. But they are very stubborn 🙂 they insist on staying in “available widgets” (even though they also appear in “inactive widgets” after I dragged them there).
I’ve downloaded a few other themes and also tried to activate the Twenty Ten 1.1, which is the default. But no matter which theme I acttivate, the “Meta” and Blogroll remains (including in the default theme, although in the “Twenty Ten” there is only “Meta”).
I must remove it – especially the “Meta” – because is allows anyone an entrance to the admin.
I know that it’s protected by user name and password, but user names and passwords are the easiest this in the world to break. It’s like a paper wall…
Could you please take a look at the 3.0.1 version? (this is all like ancient Greek for me).
    Many thanks,
    Hadass

By the way, in case it’s important, my theme is: HeatMap Adsense Theme 2.5.4.
I’ve dragged several of the other widgets (custom menu, categories and pages) into the right sidebar (where the “meta” and “bogroll” are), but nothing changes 🙁
    Please h…elp….

    Hi,
    Thanks.
I dragged “categories” into the right sidebar but it’s not changing.
Can I create a completely new sidebar? I don’t mean a second one next to the one that is already there (gosh, I can even figure out how to operate the one that exist :-)), I just would like to create something blank that would qualify as something that I can drag into the “right sidebar”, so it would overwrite the blogroll and meta.
    Thanks,
    Hadass

    Hi James,
    That’s sounds a good idea.
Just one question (please excuse my complete ignorance about it): how do I create a new sidebar?
I created a new blank post, only with “AAA” in the headline, and saved it. But I don’t know how to turn it into a sidebar.
Can you please tell me how to create a blank sidebar? (or any sidebar)?
    Many thanks,
    Hadass

I can see that daniel3ub wrote in July 2009:
“disable the sidebar via ATO Options”.
Is it still relevant in the current (new) version?
And can you please tell me what is: ATO?
(Do you think it would work with the new version?)
    Thanks

sorry, I meant: failing (failing to do so)

    Hi Esmi,
    Thanks.
I dragged the “Meta” into: “[sidebar] right”
    But it’s still there.
I am trying to get rid of the “blogroll” and the “meta”, so it will not be seen on the website.
So far, I am faling to do that 🙁
I’ve installed the wordpress two days ago, so I’m assuming I have the last version.
Is it possible that what used to work with previous versions doesn’t work with the new one?
    Thanks,
    Hadass

    Hi,
    I did that.
I draged it into the “right sidebar” and then clicked on “Delete”. And nothing.

In the link you sent me it says:
“For the Widget that is to be removed, click the Edit button in the next to the right Widget name.
4.Click the Remove button in the bottom right of the dialog box.
    5.Click the Save Changes button”.
But there are no: “edit” or “Remove” or “Save Changes” options.
Only: “Delete” and “close”. I tries them both (after dragging them) and it doesn’t work…
(I clicked the “Delete” and “Close” after draging the “Links” and “meta”)…

    Thanks,
    Unfortunately, it’s not working 🙁
The instructions are: “Drag widgets here to remove them from the sidebar but keep their settings”.
I dragged them there but it hasn’t changed.
    (Sorry again… )
    Thanks

    Thanks,
Could you please tell me what should I do after I click on Appearance and Widgets?
I see there are: “Links” and “Meta” but what should I do with them?
(Sorry for all the questions, this is all very new to me).
    Thanks,
    Hadass
